Identification and cleaning of Components
Identifying Major Computer Components
Before cleaning, let’s look at the essential hardware parts inside a typical desktop or laptop:
- Motherboard
- The main circuit board that connects all components.
- Contains CPU socket, RAM slots, expansion slots, and connectors.
- Processor (CPU)
- The “brain” of the computer, responsible for executing instructions.
- Usually covered with a heatsink and cooling fan.
- Memory (RAM)
- Temporary storage used for active programs and processes.
- Installed in slots on the motherboard.
- Storage Devices (HDD/SSD)
- Hard drives (HDD) and solid-state drives (SSD) store operating system, software, and files.
- Power Supply Unit (PSU)
- Provides power to all components.
- Usually located at the back of the desktop case.
- Graphics Card (GPU)
- Handles video and graphics rendering.
- May be integrated or installed separately in an expansion slot.
- Cooling Fans & Heat Sinks
- Maintain airflow to prevent overheating.
- Optical Drives, Ports, and Peripherals
- DVD/CD drives, USB ports, keyboards, mouse, monitor, etc.
