Identification and cleaning of Components

Identifying Major Computer Components

Before cleaning, let’s look at the essential hardware parts inside a typical desktop or laptop:

  1. Motherboard
    • The main circuit board that connects all components.
    • Contains CPU socket, RAM slots, expansion slots, and connectors.
  2. Processor (CPU)
    • The “brain” of the computer, responsible for executing instructions.
    • Usually covered with a heatsink and cooling fan.
  3. Memory (RAM)
    • Temporary storage used for active programs and processes.
    • Installed in slots on the motherboard.
  4. Storage Devices (HDD/SSD)
    • Hard drives (HDD) and solid-state drives (SSD) store operating system, software, and files.
  5. Power Supply Unit (PSU)
    • Provides power to all components.
    • Usually located at the back of the desktop case.
  6. Graphics Card (GPU)
    • Handles video and graphics rendering.
    • May be integrated or installed separately in an expansion slot.
  7. Cooling Fans & Heat Sinks
    • Maintain airflow to prevent overheating.
  8. Optical Drives, Ports, and Peripherals
    • DVD/CD drives, USB ports, keyboards, mouse, monitor, etc.
